Tips for Organizing

Heather Bland-Ho

Heather began her organizing business in 2006 and is a proud member of NAPO.

Heather has always been involved in educating and empowering people. She holds a B.S. in Elementary Education, an M.S. in Language and Literacy, and an M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. She worked as an elementary school teacher for five years (Grades 3-5, multi-age 3/4.) and was a founding teacher for a magnet school in Saint Paul, MN that integrated urban and suburban children to learn about environmental sciences and multiculturalism. Heather also served as Lead Teacher for her team and helped design the curriculum, as well as helped to design the building to support that curriculum. She now shares her talents with her private organizing clients.

Heather operates according to a simple two-part philosophy:

  1. it's all about the client (the idea that everyone is different and therefore has different needs, and Heather's job is to listen to what's working and not working, then strategize to create a workable plan that invites peace -- and
  2. the job can often feel insurmountable to clients, but take things one step at a time to create a feeling of success, then build on that success until reaching the goal.

Heather's greatest organizing strength is her background -- her work as a teacher and as the mother of three small children (ages 8, 6 and 2) gives her a wealth of experience to help anyone, but especially families with children.

In her own words -- "To me, organizing is not about achieving perfection- it's about creating peace of mind. Most of us don't want to be Martha Stewart or live in museums where our families aren't comfortable... we just want to be productive and on top of the 'have-to's' so that we can get to the 'want-to's,' relaxing and enjoying our families. Professional organizing is also about teaching others how to maintain their new-found calm."
